Hi there,Â
I'm a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from The University of Texas at El Paso. As a Mellon Research Scholar, I contribute to Latinx Sound Cultures Studies, a group established in 2022 with the support of the Crossing Latinidades Humanities Initiative program at the University of Illinois, Chicago, through a grant from the Andrew Mellon Foundation.

I am a Mexican Latino born and raised on the U.S.-Mexico border, between Ciudad Juárez and El Paso. As an interdisciplinary scholar working at the intersection of Digital Humanities, Cultural Research, and Digital Art, my research is grounded in Rhetoric and focuses on Sound Studies, Border Rhetorics, and Latinx cultural experiences. I explore how soundscapes—particularly those emerging from border regions—reveal the socio-cultural dynamics and symbolic constructions shaped by cultural-aesthetic exchanges in Latino/a/x communities.
My work bridges Digital and Visual Rhetorics, Design Thinking, and Sound Studies, drawing from both humanistic inquiry and creative practice. I view sound not only as an expressive medium but also as an archive of place, identity, and memory. Through the philosophical and rhetorical analysis of sound, I investigate how border soundscapes contribute to the region’s intangible cultural heritage and enrich the broader discourse of Latinx cultural research.
